Sadly, this draconian tax law, enacted to combat the cocaine cowboys of Miami (circa 1982) lingers to impose itself on the modern State-licit cannabis industry. State-licit cannabis is now present in some form in nearly all 50 states, making the relevance and applicability of 280E a non sequitur and a scourge, burdening these licit businesses with an effective 3X tax rate that no other licit business bears.
